Using Kairos

Searching the Bible

Find any verse by reference, by phrase, or by what the pastor just said, keyboard-first, instant.

Kairos has a single search surface that does three things, depending on what you type into it: jump to a verse by reference, find verses by phrase, or scrub the recent transcript for something the pastor said earlier.

  • Search panel: pinned to the dashboard's right column. Always visible, always ready.
  • Search dialog: opens full-screen from the dashboard's search trigger. Useful when you want focus and your eyes on the transcript at the same time.

Both surfaces use the same input.

Search by reference

Type a Bible reference and Kairos autocompletes as you go:

  1. Type J, the picker suggests every book starting with J (Joshua, Job, John, James, Jude). Numbered books match too: typing 1 then a space then J suggests 1 John.
  2. Press Tab to commit the book.
  3. Type the chapter number, then Tab.
  4. Type the verse number.
  5. Press Enter to queue it (or Cmd + Enter to send straight to live).

The picker accepts canonical references in any common form: John 3:16, Jn 3.16, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

Numbered books, the Roman way

Numbered books also accept Roman numerals, I John 1:9 and II Peter 3:8 resolve the same as 1 John 1:9 and 2 Peter 3:8. Pick whichever convention your team prefers.

Search by phrase

Type words instead of a reference and Kairos searches every bundled translation for matches. Phrase searches are full-text and ranked: the best matches appear first.

Examples that work:

  • "walk by faith"
  • "fearfully and wonderfully"
  • "the just shall live by faith"

Results show the verse text and the reference. Click to queue.

Search the recent transcript

When the search input is focused, a third mode kicks in: searching the live transcript context. This is what you want when the pastor just made a point a minute ago and you want to scrub back to it.

Type a fragment of what was said and Kairos surfaces the most likely matches from the current session's transcript with the verse the detector caught for each. This is fuzzy on purpose, you don't have to remember the exact words.

The result list

Hover or arrow-key down through results and watch them light up. The keyboard shortcuts that matter:

  • ↑ / ↓: move through verses in the current chapter
  • ← / →: previous / next chapter
  • Enter: queue the highlighted result
  • Cmd + Enter: send the highlighted result straight to live
  • Esc: close search

Cross-references

When a verse is selected in the queue, the cross-reference panel shows every related passage ranked by thematic relevance. This is its own search-like surface, click any cross-reference to queue it. See Bible translations for the dataset.
